With support from the Japan Foundation, the Japan Creative Centre and The Arts House, “Contemporary Tradition – Japanese Performance Genre Today” will take place from 13 October through 15 October.  The conference, organized by the Department of Japanese Studies, is held in celebration of the 50 years of diplomatic ties between Japan and Singapore, as well as the 35th anniversary of our Department.

Scholars from different fields of traditional Japanese performance will be participating in this conference and present their research pertaining to traditional Japanese performance. Other presenters will share with us their experience in the more practical aspects of traditional performance genre in today’s context. We have invited both scholars and practitioners from Singapore, the Philippines, Japan, Germany, United States and the United Kingdom to participate in this conference.
